Very minimal fluctuations this week, despite constraints on Norwegian Supply amid extensions to annual maintenance and unplanned outages.

Some good news heading into colder weather, an LNG cargo destined for the UK has finally hit the scopes. The Maran Gas Amorgos from Louisiana is scheduled to deliver a cargo to South Hook, on 26th September. This will be the first laden vessel the port has received since the 18th of August!

Net Zero - Changes/Revisions to Policy

Rishi Sunak recently announced plans to delay some climate targets and makes changes in other bits of policy. The main points being:

  • New cars with combustion engines were due to be banned from sale by 2030. This has been pushed back to 2035
  • Weakening of plans to phase out the installation of gas boilers by 2035, instead the aim will be for an 80% phase out. All off grid oil boilers due to be banned in 2026 would be delayed until 2035, with an 80% phase out. ‘This will give far more time for people to make the necessary transition to heat pumps' Although, this will extend the UK’s reliance on gas imports.
  • There will no longer be a requirement for homeowners and landlords to meet energy efficiency targets through EPC’s – Energy Performance Certificates. Plans to fine landlords who fail to upgrade to the required level of energy efficiency have now been dropped.
  • Behaviour - He is stepping into block ‘interfering’ civil servants from encouraging further ways to help meet net zero. He said “The proposal for government to interfere in how many passengers you can have in your car – I’ve scrapped it. “The proposal that we should force you to have seven different bins in your home – I’ve scrapped it. “The proposal to make you change your diet and harm British farmers by taxing meat, or to create new taxes to discourage flying or going on holiday. I’ve scrapped those too.”
