Care Insurance

With so much pressure on the NHS to discharge patients, in order to free up beds, more and more domiciliary care providers are being asked to provide nursing services to discharged patients in their homes.

Your insurance policy

The question I am asked most often is whether you are covered under your insurance policy. The simple answer is yes, provided that you as the service provider has thoroughly risk assessed the situation, updated the user’s care plan and your staff have been adequately trained.

Training

The training may be provided by healthcare professionals or by domiciliary care agencies, and it may be tailored to meet the specific needs of the patient and their carer. Regular follow-up and support may also be provided to ensure that carers feel confident and competent in their role.

Overall, domiciliary care training for carers after hospital discharge is an important step in ensuring that patients receive high-quality care in the community and can remain safely at home while they recover.

What kind of nursing is being requested?

The many types of complex care being requested for service users includes:

  • Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) Feeding
  • Tracheostomy Care
  • Stoma Care
  • Wound cleaning and dressing

Make sure that all staff files should be updated to avoid any potential issues.
